Pumpkin Picking at The Pumpkin Patch, Bewholme

There’s something about autumn in East Yorkshire that makes you want to slow down a little — crisp mornings, cosy jumpers, colourful countryside and, of course, pumpkin picking.

One of our favourite local seasonal days out is The Pumpkin Patch at Bewholme, a family-run pumpkin farm just a short drive from Bumblebee Escapes. It’s a lovely one to add to an autumn stay, whether you’re visiting as a couple, with little ones, or simply fancy choosing the perfect pumpkin straight from the field.

For 2026, the farm’s Pumpkin Displays and Pumpkin Shop open on 26 and 27 September, then daily from 3 October through to Halloween, with free entry and free parking at the farm. Their Pick Your Own pumpkin field runs on selected dates throughout October from 10am–4pm, with no advance booking required. Admission to the PYO field is £2 per person, with under-twos free.

Pick your pumpkin straight from the field

The Pumpkin Patch grows more than 45 varieties of pumpkins, gourds and squashes, so there’s much more to choose from than the traditional orange carving pumpkin. You’ll find different colours, shapes and sizes, whether you’re looking for something to carve, cook with or simply display at home.

It’s also a particularly lovely spot for autumn photographs. The farm creates seasonal displays, including its large Pumpkin Mountain, while the PYO field has its own photo opportunities amongst the pumpkins.

More than just pumpkin picking

If you make a proper day of it, there’s plenty to enjoy beyond choosing your pumpkins. At the PYO events, food is available from The Two Tossers, including Neapolitan-style pizzas and seasonal pumpkin specials made using pumpkins grown at the farm. There is also the option to carve your pumpkin on site, which means somebody else gets to deal with the mess!

The farm is run by the Butler family and has grown from a small quarter-acre patch planted with 1,000 pumpkin plants in 2010 to more than 12 acres today. Four generations of the family are involved in growing and harvesting the crops, which makes it exactly the sort of independent East Yorkshire business we love pointing our guests towards.

When can you visit in 2026?

The Pick Your Own Pumpkin field is open from 10am–4pm on:

3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18 and 24–31 October 2026.

There’s no need to pre-book. The PYO events are weather dependent, so it’s always worth checking The Pumpkin Patch’s own website or social pages before setting off. Dogs aren’t permitted at the farm or PYO events.

The main farm, displays and Pumpkin Shop are at Homeland Farm, Catfoss Road, Bewholme, East Yorkshire, YO25 8DX.

🐝 Bumblebee Tip

Wear wellies or boots you don’t mind getting muddy! You’re heading into a working field in October, so conditions can get a little soggy. We’d also recommend going earlier in the day if you want plenty of time for photographs, pumpkin choosing and something to eat afterwards.

And if you’re staying with us, there’s something particularly lovely about coming back after an autumn afternoon outside, warming up, and ending the day in your private hot tub.

Make it part of an autumn escape

Pumpkin picking is one of those simple seasonal activities that makes an autumn break feel a little more special. Pair it with a walk along the East Yorkshire coast, a cosy lunch somewhere local and an evening back at Bumblebee Escapes, and you’ve got a pretty lovely October day sorted.

We’ll be sharing more of our favourite autumn places, walks and cosy East Yorkshire ideas here on The Bumblebee Journal over the coming weeks.
